Vibrationally Excited Hcn in the Luminous Infrared Galaxy Ngc 4418

چکیده
Infrared pumping and its effect on the excitation of HCN molecules can be important when using rotational lines of HCN to probe dense molecular gas in galaxy nuclei. We report the first extragalactic detection of (sub)millimeter rotational lines of vibrationally excited HCN, in the dust-enshrouded nucleus of the luminous infrared galaxy NGC 4418. We estimate the excitation temperature of Tvib ≈ 230 K between the vibrational ground and excited (v2=1) states. This excitation is most likely due to infrared radiation. At this high vibrational temperature the path through the v2=1 state must have a strong impact on the rotational excitation in the vibrational ground level, although it may not be dominant for all rotational levels. Our observations also revealed nearly confusion limited lines of CO, HCN, HCO, HCN, HCN, CS, N2H , and HC3N at λ ∼ 1 mm. Their relative intensities may also be affected by the infrared pumping. Prevalence of compact nuclear starbursts in nearby Seyfert galaxies
We present an imaging survey of the CO(1–0), HCN(1–0), and HCO(1–0) lines in the nearby Seyfert galaxies using the Nobeyama Millimeter Array and RAINBOW Interferometer. Some of the observed Seyfert galaxies including NGC 1068, NGC 1097, NGC 5033, and NGC 5194 exhibit strong HCN(1–0) emission on a few 100 pc scales. The observed HCN(1–0)/CO(1–0) and HCN(1–0)/HCO(1–0) line ratios in the Seyfert n...

High spatial resolution observations of the CO(1–0), HCN(1–0), HCO(1–0), and CO(1–0) molecular lines toward the luminous infrared merger NGC 6240 have been performed using the Nobeyama Millimeter Array and the RAINBOW Interferometer. All of the observed molecular emission lines are concentrated in the region between the double nuclei of the galaxy. However, the distributions of both HCN and HCO...

Aims. Our goal is to study molecular gas properties in nuclei and large scale outflows/winds from active galactic nuclei (AGNs) and starburst galaxies. Methods. We obtained high resolution (0. ′′25 to 0. ′′90) observations of HCN and HCO J = 3 → 2 of the ultraluminous QSO galaxy Mrk 231 with the IRAM Plateau de Bure Interferometer (PdBI). Results. We find luminous HCN and HCO J = 3 → 2 emission...

We present the Spitzer/IRS mid-infrared spectrum of the infrared-luminous ( ) brightest 11 L p 4 # 10 L IR , cluster galaxy (BCG) in the X-ray–luminous cluster Zwicky 3146 (Z3146; ). The spectrum shows strong z p 0.29 aromatic emission features, indicating that the dominant source of the infrared luminosity is star formation. The most striking feature of the spectrum, however, is the exceptiona...

We report single-dish multitransition measurements of the 12CO, HCN, and HCO+ molecular line emission as well as HNC J = 1–0 and HNCO in the two ultraluminous IR galaxies Arp 220 and NGC 6240. Using this new molecular line inventory, in conjunction with existing data in the literature, we compiled the most extensive molecular line data sets to date for such galaxies. The many rotational transit...
